10.3.17 Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau (WCIRB)

The Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau (WCIRB), hereafter referred to as the Rating Bureau or simply Bureau, is a nonprofit association licensed by the Insurance Commissioner for the purpose of collecting rating information, the making of rates, rating plans and rating systems for workers' compensation insurance, and presenting them to the Insurance Commissioner for issuance and/or approval. The Bureau was established in 1915 by 16 companies writing workers' compensation insurance in California.

Today the Bureau's membership is compromised of all insurance companies licensed to transact workers' compensation insurance in California. There are more than 400 such companies.
