Has Anyone Had Experience With VPI Pet Insurance?

Pet insurance in the US has a bad reputation. For too long just one company has had a sub-standard product that people expected to behave one way but in reality acted a completely different way. As a result a lot of pet owners think pet insurance stinks and frankly I can't blame them.

But there are a few new companies offering pet insurance here and they tend to be better. I will explain why.

VPI built its pet insurance around the idea of a "benefit schedule". For example, let's say your dog drank rodenticide (rat poison). According to VPI, they will reimburse you a maximum of $248 $147 or $395, then you pay the deductible of $50 and 10% of the bill. In other words, a standard case of rodenticide poisoning that might cost you $2,000 or more at the vet clinic and VPI reimburses you just ($395 - $50) * 0.9 = $319.50.
