The Farm Bureau Mutual Automobile Insurance company began in 1925 to provide low-cost auto insurance to the farmers of Ohio. Over the next few years, Farm Bureau Mutual expanded to serve West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Vermont, and North Carolina. By 1934, the company had purchased a fire insurance company and began offering property insurance. It also expanded beyond farm insurance and started serving metropolitan areas as well.
