Life is full of double meanings. Take the English word “figures,” for instance. There’s “go figure,” as in “I never thought this was going to happen but… it did.” Then there’s “go figure it out,” as in “We have a problem. Find a solution.”

Stories too have figures. Some are numbers. Others are people.
